Website Terms of Use

The terms that govern your use of this website. Our legal services are governed by our General Terms of Engagement.

VERSION 2.0Effective 12 July 2026·About a 5 minute read

1.About these terms#

These terms govern your use of this website, nextsteplegal.com.au. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

These terms are about the website only. When we act for you as your lawyers, that engagement is governed by our General Terms of Engagement and the Costs Agreement we give you for your matter, not by this page.

2.Who we are#

  • Nextstep Legal Services Pty Ltd (ABN 62 687 838 393), trading as Nextstep Legal
  • Level 1, 41-43 Stewart Street, Richmond VIC 3121
  • We are an incorporated legal practice regulated by the Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner.

In these terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean Nextstep Legal Services Pty Ltd.

3.Information on this site is not legal advice#

The guides, articles and other information on this site are general information about the law in Victoria. They are not legal advice, and they are not tailored to your circumstances. Reading this site, or contacting us through it, does not make you our client and does not create a solicitor-client relationship.

We work to keep the site accurate and current, but the law changes and we do not promise that everything on the site is complete or up to date at the moment you read it. Before acting on anything you read here, get advice on your own situation.

4.Calculators and quotes#

Our calculators (for example, the stamp duty calculator) give estimates based on the information you enter and published rates at the time we last updated them. They are a guide only, not advice, and the actual figures for your transaction may differ.

A quote from our quote calculator is an estimate of our fixed fee based on what you tell us. It becomes binding only when it is confirmed in a Costs Agreement for your matter.

5.Sending us documents and enquiries#

You can use this site to upload documents (for example, a contract of sale) or send us an enquiry.

No retainer yet. Sending us documents or information does not, by itself, make us your lawyers. A solicitor-client relationship is formed only once we have reviewed your enquiry, completed our conflict and identity checks, and you have accepted a Costs Agreement. We will treat what you send us as confidential in the meantime.

Urgent matters. If your matter is time-critical, for example a cooling-off period that is about to expire, call us. Do not rely on a website submission alone; we are not responsible for delay in reviewing submissions we have not confirmed receiving.

We use secure technology, including AI tools, to process documents you send us, as described in our Privacy Policy.

6.Client portal#

Our client portal is provided through a third-party platform with its own login and terms. These terms govern this website; the portal provider's terms govern the portal.

7.Acceptable use#

When using this site, you must not:

  • do anything unlawful, or upload another person's private information without their consent
  • upload files containing viruses or other code designed to interfere with the site or anyone's systems
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site or the systems behind it
  • scrape, copy or republish the site's content for commercial purposes
  • use the site to defame or harass anyone

8.Our content#

We own or license the content on this site, including the text, guides, graphics, logos and software. You may view the site and use its content for your own personal, non-commercial purposes. Beyond what the law permits (for example, fair dealing), you must not reproduce, distribute or commercially exploit our content without our written permission.

10.Privacy#

Our Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through this site, how we use it, and the rights you have.

11.Availability and changes to the site#

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the site at any time without notice. We do not guarantee the site will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of viruses, and you should use your own virus protection.

12.Liability#

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, this website or its content.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under law that cannot be excluded, restricted or modified by agreement, including under the Australian Consumer Law. Our liability for legal services is addressed in our General Terms of Engagement, not this page.

13.Changes to these terms#

We may update these terms from time to time. The current version is always published on this page, with the version number and effective date shown at the top. Your use of the site after a change takes effect is acceptance of the updated terms.

14.Governing law#

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts exercising jurisdiction there.
